New Moon in Aries: Ain't No Turning Back Now

Welcome to a new astrological year! This year opens with a profound shift as Saturn moves from Capricorn to Aquarius. Saturn will return to Capricorn when it turns retrograde in a couple of months and then will return and stay in Aquarius until 2023.

Over the past few weeks, the slow motion insanity of the past couple of years was pushed into high gear when Mars, the ruler of this current New Moon in Aries, impatiently took it upon himself to speed along the long, low-grade erosion of our current systems which Saturn and Pluto have been working on for the past two years. Jupiter's arrival a few weeks before had been aggravating the situation but when Mars arrived, the entire thing exploded.

Now we find ourselves living in a real-life dystopia, wondering how we got here. Well, some of us are. Quite a few of us know why we're here. Saturn and Pluto over the past few years has been warning us that our way of life is not sustainable and has to end. That the current cycle is over and there's no coming back. We have seen the weaknesses and the absurdities of our traditions and beliefs about ourselves playing out to their relentlessly logical conclusions.

If you believe that everything and everybody is a commodity, if you believe that the market is the ultimate arbiter of what's right and what's wrong, if you believe that the earth's only purpose is to used and extracted from, if you believe that the goal of life is to hoard money and resources so that you have more than you can possibly ever use and that it is your right to tightly control and monetize access to those resources, then the past few years have been golden for you. However, Saturn and Pluto might have been setting you up for a fall.

Saturn's move into Aquarius has pulled the floor out from under those of us who have been complicit in building up this unsustainable system with our blind obedience to a system that exploits us. Those of us who chased that dream of being the one hoarding the resources to our detriment are hitting the wall. Those fantasies are exposed for the selfish pipe dreams that they are.

We are also long overdue for the rude awakening which will come when it finally hits us that we're not gonna just be able to return to the good old days. Nope. That time is gone. It's dead. The more we resist that realization, the harder it becomes. Each time we try to return to an old habit or an old relationship or any dead situation, the more painful the consequences until it finally penetrates our thick skulls. This is dead. This is over.

No we don't want to change. We loved our fantasies. But they weren't real. Now the harsh period of adjustment begins.

We know what to do. We know that we are supposed to be looking out for each other. We know that we are supposed to be conserving and taking care of the earth. We know that hoarding is wrong. We know that our fates are intertwined.

This experiment in humanity separating itself from the rest of nature is drawing to a close. We're reaching the point where we either take responsibility for the harm we have done and atone for it or we destroy ourselves. Regardless of what we choose to do, the earth is gonna live. The universe will remain intact.

There's no turning back now. What are we gonna do?
